President Buhari Orders military checkpoints Removed across Nigeria
President Muhammadu Buhari has on Monday directed that all military checkpoints across Nigeria be removed and dismantled immediately. This move was one of the outcomes of his meeting with the Service Chiefs on Monday, at the Presidential Villa in Abuja
The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Defence, Aliyu Ismaila, disclosed this to State House correspondents after a meeting Buhari had with service chiefs at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
Military checkpoints multiplied across Nigeria after the insurgency intensified, causing terrible traffic snarls and subjecting commuters to untold hardship.
Aliyu Ismaila, said “The President had instructed the Chief of Defence Staff to get the Chief of Army Staff and Inspector-General of Police to remove all the military men along the roads across the country.
The Permanent Aliyu Ismaila also said that the service chiefs left the meeting happier because the President updated and enriched their strategic plans.
However, security experts repeatedly argued that it was better for Nigerians to bear the inconveniences caused by military checkpoints than allow Boko Haram insurgents free passages to targets in cities.
