The Nigerian Army has confirmed the death of 50 persons in two separate bomb explosions carried out by three girls in Damaturu, Yobe, this about 7:40 a.m. Friday morning. A statement issued on Friday in Abuja by the Acting-Director of Army Public Relations, Col. Sani Usman, confirmed that the explosions occurred at screening areas of the Eid prayer ground.
According to him, in addition to the 50 persons confirmed death, many other persons are injured in the explosions suspected to have been masterminded by insurgents.

“This is to confirm that there were two suicide bomb explosions today at about 7:40 a.m. in Damaturu, Yobe, in which two female suicide bombers — one elderly woman and a ten year-old girl –detonated the devices.

“It occurred at screening areas for intending Muslim worshippers at Layin Gwange, Damaturu and at Phase1, in front of former state secretariat, Damaturu,’’
he said.

He said that 43 persons died in the first explosion while 7 people died in the second explosion. It is confirmed that three girls carried out the suicide bombings in the northeastern Nigerian city of Damaturu on Friday, killing 13 people who are celebrating the end of the holy Muslim month of Ramadan, police said.

“Thirteen people were killed in the… suicide blasts,” said Markus Danladi, Yobe state police commissioner. “The attacks were carried out by three underage girls. Fifteen people were also injured in the attacks.”

Boko Haram Islamists have carried out a slew of deadly assaults in northeast Nigeria over the course of their six-year-old insurgency. Over the past year the group has deployed several female suicide bombers.
